Help me spec a new PC

(1/4) > >>

Piglet:
My pc is sulking. It's not happy that I bought a server that is faster than it is. It's an i5 which is not as powerful as I want, and is sometimes refusing to boot.

I'll never need 2 graphics cards or the stuff you get with expensive mobo's. I won't be powering led strips...

I'm looking for something for the next few years. Any advice or improvements on this configuration would be helpful:

Asus ROG Strix B450-F Motherboard +

  AMD Ryzen 5 3600X +

  Corsair 2x 8GB 3600Mhz DDR4 Vengeance LPX +

Corsair VS550 550W 80+ Power Supply (will swap out for better PSU from existing machine) total all of the above  £428.93

Corsair Force Series MP510 NVMe M.2 480GB SSD £72.99

Video: Already got XFX RX 580
Cheapie case: Cooler Master MasterBox E500L ATX £37.05

Data drives for all the stuff like ut crap I've built up over time, family photos etc Seagate Barracuda 1TB ST1000DM010 £34.01* 2   (RAID 1 pair)

£606.99

holyspam:
Those extra 35 pounds for a 3600x...meh, it's only 200mhz...not worth it, 4400/4200 = +5% performance, you could spend that on a seasonic PSU(top quality manufacturing and 5-7-10 years warranty) or get a bigger ssd(1TB).

There is always the option to overclock and reach 3600X or upgrade to a 8/12/16core monster, some years later if you're not happy with the 6core performance.

Should also consider that outside of heavy IO use, most NVMe SSDs are indistinguishable.

p.s. dont get the corsair psu :P

Piglet:
It's only £15 less for the same bundle with a 3600 so worth it just for the better heatsink

The psu will be swapped for a decent one from my old machine (I can't remember what it was, but it was a reasonable one.

Nardaq_NL:
