Help me spec a new PC

Just for comparison, the 8cores/16threads i7-6900X was released in mid 2016 for 1000-1100$ and the 10cores/20threads i7-6950x for 1700$.

Ryzen came out in early 2017 with 8c/16t cpus that beat both top intels in multicore by 20% while costing 300-500$ depending on model.

We're at a point where you can buy the 8c/16t Ryzen 2700 which is another 20% faster for 140-180$, or a 6c/12t for 100-120$, intel keeps selling 6cores for 200$+ and 8cores at 300$+

In the meantime during late 2017 to late 2018 Intel went in panic mode and released the same cpu architecture since 2015(6 series) but increased core counts and selling price to 8cores and 550$ calling them 8th gen and later 9th gen and forced people to upgrade motherboards, because they were supposed to be "electrically incompatible"

Some guys responded with modding some bios and got working intel 9th gen 8cores on motherboards from 2016.

Then in mid 2019 amd released a totally new cpu design that's around 30% faster than their previous gen with 6c/12t at 200$, 8c/16t at 300$, 12cores at 500$ and 16cores at 750$, all of which are officially supported on every motherboard just with a bios update. (you CAN put a 16core on a 50$ motherboard, not recommended though)

The only reason to buy intel now is only if you're willing to spend 500$ for their top 8core, get a custom water cooling loop, overclock to 5.2ghz+ just to get 5-10% higher fps in really old single-core bound games like cs:go.

AMD Ryzen chips are incredibly powerful at a fraction of the Intel price for similar performance

Yeah piggy AMD has shifted its atention towards CPU market, they were pushing for GPU but since NVIDIA launched RTX series and already has another AMPERE technology lined up so i guess AMD accepted defeat for challenging nvidia for gpu market and focused on cpu and are giving intel a headache xd

at present amd has best value for money cpus out there

OK - machine is up and running, but I have sound happening about 1/4 second after the in-game event.

ASUS ROG Strix B450-F motherboard on-board sound.

Ahy ideas how to fix it so the sound and event are synched? I'm being hit, then hear the shot that did it...

not sure it will help but in ut - under settings,.  audio tab,. audio mode,. mine is set to h/w 3d audio,. might be worth trying different settings to see if it helps

if you're running the 64 bit ut,.  apparently that forces open al for the audio ( whatever that is ) is possible to run the 32 bit ut - (solution 5?) https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=594282124

I still using win7 but at some point will move over to win10

Piglet:
I'm on the 32 bit UT. I've tried 3D audio and H/W 3D Audio - same issue.

I wonder whether my ancient oem creative soundcard would work in this PC...  [Edit] nah. No pcx these days
