BT are utterly hopeless at taking any network issue report

(1/1)

Piglet:
Today there is major packet loss (25%) and slow throughput (150-228ms response time) on 166-49-214-198.gia.bt.net.

The BT "report a fault" team do not appear to have any way take a report of such an issue and get it to the appropriate networking team.

After about an hour on the phone today the best they could do today was to try to get me to "go to a computer shop to get a new IPS address"....

Stealer:
Isn't that your DNS server on that hop? Are you using the BT smart hub 2? There are settings in there to change DNS same with most other routers.
Sadly I didn't write my login details down for my BT diagnostic things, so can't really help you

Piglet:
I don't think that's DNS. By that point the packets have gone through to London, through Telehouse and are on their way to meet up with aorta to get to Sheffield to pass to Virgin media, for their onward round-Britian excursion to Southampton and back to Bournemouth having travelled 200 miles to go a mile and a half as the crow flies....

No wonder it's lower ping from France and NL than from here!

Stealer:
Aye the routing sounds rather pants (Open Longest Path First)! I have the same problem (with higher ping than mainland Europeans) although I'm not 100% sure I'm geographically closer than Belgium, parts of France or NL... Lol 575 miles to London by road for me.
