Flenser's Spring Trip — Nice and Amsterdam!

(1/2) > >>

Flenser:
Mrs. Flenser and I (and possibly Flenser Jr.) will be in Nice the first week of April, and in Amsterdam the second week of April.

We'd love to meet up and have a cup of coffee, or a glass of wine, or just hang out and chat.

Hit me up on Discord or reply here and we can exchange WhatsApp info to coordinate.

Nice!!!  - Never been :)
Amsterdam - A seasoned veteran.

How are you able to take all these holidays?  I thought you're American :)

If you're looking for hotels, there are plenty to choose from, although they tend to fill up quickly if there are any major events on such as The Cannabis Cup, and Koningsdag  (Kings Day) which takes place on 26th April this year.  It used to be called Koninginnedag until Queen Beatrix abdicated.  If you're there during Kings Day, wear orange and lots of it.

As said, there are a squillion hotels at the heart of the city, and others just outside.  Amsterdam has a very good public transport system with everything easily accessible.

Some hotel recommendations:
Grand Krasnapolski -
Barbizon Palace
Golden Tulip Inntel
Clinknoord
Botel
Doria

I've stayed in countless hotels there, some I've returned to, some I'd never set foot in again.
One in particular was infested with bed bugs (Damrak Hotel).  I had >70 bites, so check the sheets before you crash out, and keep your cases in the bath so the little critters don't hitch a ride.

Apart from the RLD and the numerous coffee shops (Mike Tyson has one there), there are plenty of things to keep you occupied such as a canal trip, museums art gallery's, public parks, zoo, sex museums, and people watching.  There's also Anne Frank's house, but the entrance queue can be quite lengthy.

I am American, but I work for a tech company that has a pretty relaxed vacation policy. I make good use of that.

Thanks for the recommendations! We've been to Amsterdam before, so we've done a bunch of the usual tourist stuff, although I'd be happy to spend a week just in the Rijksmuseum. This trip we're going to visit the tulip farms, Delft, and who knows what else.

Do you have any recommendations for restaurants? We'll eat pretty much any type of food, from kebabs (mmmm, tough to get good ones in our part of the US) to Michelin-class tasting menus.

BTW, no thanks for stealing my potato bus in that SpaceStation game!  :-\

Sounds like you covered most bases.  If you haven't been before, I'd recommend paying the Bodyworlds Museum a visit.  I'd passed it by a couple of times as I was put off by the content, but I'm glad I took the plunge.  I found it fascinating.

If you're looking to fill in some time at night, there's Boom Chicago.  This is an Improv' comedy club.  They also do comedy classes if you fancy a go :)

The Ice  Bar.  Their blurb is "Everything inside is made entirely out of ice,
even the glass your beer or shot is served in!"

If you're feeling a bit more adventurous and want to chill out at the same time, there's the Sauna Deco.
It's a mixed/textile free establishment, so don't be surprised if you see peoples bits hanging down and swinging around as they move between spa and sauna areas.  Feel free to let your own hang out if you wish :)

It's mainly street food and cafe fare I shovel down my neck while in Amsterdam.
The Damstraat (just off Dam Square) is good for pizza (Doria), shawarma, Argentinian steakhouses, and Renes (for pastries, cakes, churros).

Ah, sorry 'bout that.  I thought I'd hide it for a bit until someone notices then jump back up again but I didn't hear a word, so I hung around listening to the music.
I've been listening to it in my head since :)

Flenser:
Thanks for the recommendations!

Mrs. Flenser says she's not down with the dangly bits parts though.  :D
