Thanks for your reply.
Well, there are some functions in Firefox where you have no hotkey and also there are some special functions where I don't know the hotkey - for example I couldn't access the options menu ...

Anyway, the long term support for my Ubuntu 10.04 ends this year, so I better install sth new. There I have multiple options, but I'm not sure  what to choose:

1. install Arch Linux and set up all from scratch (very much work, maybe issues with configuring the surround sound)
2. install Linux Mint (fewest work, maybe some sound issues/incompatibilities)
3. hopefully there will be a fluxbox version of Ubuntu (because Ubuntu has the best support and out-of-the-box-working)
4. building my own shell using another window manager under Ubuntu
5. if possible trying to downgrade from gnome 3 to gnome 2 (under Ubuntu)

From what I've heard, Arch is like the best thing ever. Go for it.

I'd use it too, but can't live without Photoshop and MS Office. Even UnrealED is Windows-only.

Thanks

hmm Photoshop - ok I guess GIMP is not enough for you
MS Office - not sure what you are doing at all, but if you don't need M$ Access, open office would do the job too.
UnrealED: never tried, but I've read it works with wine (but I think you should use the same gamefiles to play the game and use the editor)

...And one thing about Arch Linux: I've tried it on my PC - had some issues getting the surround sound running; also have it on my laptop - works well, except of the power consumption (although I have installed "laptop-mode"): Ubuntu is by far the most power saving OS.
But I recommend you to try it out and install it as a 2nd OS next to Windows (or on another drive).

A project I should have shown you some time earlier xD

Arch Linux on my Lenovo Thinkpad R400  (sorry for the bad quality)

OK, maybe kinda a joke, but I was too lazy to install a login manager. Anyway, I only start my xserver when I need - It's still comfortable for me :P

...and now my Xserver with Openbox (sorry again for the bad quality: my screencapture tool couldn't record my transparent/invisible task bar and it also made an ugly frame on the picture)

To the above pix, no wonder you're into UDK. That computer of yours must be super upgraded!

Anyways, below is my newly recovered desktop. I was having problem with my graphics. Did a recovery on my hard drive. But I have the beta copy of KF3 - woohoo!

And btw: my Windows 7 desktop:

Because Windows generally sucks on default settings, I had to extend it a bit with some useful features:

  • Qtabbar for the explorer
  • windowspager (for virtual desktops like under Linux)
  • winroll (rolling in windows or making them transparent)
