Colored nickname
« on: July 17, 2012, 18:49 »
These codes can be used to colour your UT2004 server name or player name.
To change your name in UT2004 to use any of these colours, open your user.ini file up, and look for the Name= line. Copy the 4 characters next to the colour you like from the ones above, and then paste it in front of the characters you want to colour. Alternatively you can do this in game, using the "setname" command. Just remember, the text after the color code will be colored.

I checked my user file, I could not find Name= line  :'( 8) :'(
I downloaded UT2004 from GOG.com, does anyone know how I can color my nickname?

Have a great weekend,

X2X  :P

Type your name somewhere, and put the color codes where you want them to be. The name I use is below:

Code: [Select]
@@@S0NAR@@ą
In game, this should look like: S0NAR: gg

Copy your name with the color codes, and open UT2004. Hit ` to open the console, and type:

Code: [Select]
setname [paste your name here]
Hit enter and it should change your name. Example, I would have to open the console and enter:

Code: [Select]
setname @@@S0NAR@@ą
Previously known as: xS0NARx, Njordr, Latte, or whatever the "name of the week" was.

This only works if color codes are set up on the server. Don't try it on the Killing Floor server: you will mess up your nickname :P

Copy one of those 4 character color strings on that page.

Start UT2004. Open Console -> type "setname " -> press ctrl+V to paste the color string you copied earlier -> type your name -> press Enter to execute the setname command...

To define a nickname color you have to write some ASCII codes manually. To do that under Windows you have to hold n[Alt] and type in a decimal value. Under Linux it is [Ctrl]+[Shift]+[Alt] u12 (replace the "12" with the hexadecimal value).

The syntax of the color code is [esc][RRR][GGG][BBB].
[esc] means Escape - the decimal value is "27", but unfortunately you cannot define these low values under Windows (Idk why). for the RGB colors use a value between 0 and 255 [dec] (or 0-FF [hex]).

I really don't see anything complex in my steps.

Maybe you don't know how to copy paste - use ctrl+c and ctrl+v.

A lot of things are possible but not worth the time to execute.
It appears you’ve got a color fixation so I’ve got a suggestion. Do your own skin.
In-game, I mean, not physically. It might mean you have to scour the internet to learn how but you found this 8 year-old post on changing nick colors.......
