Image processing help?
« on: November 03, 2019, 11:04 »
I've been trying to get map images for each of the maps on the servers - but after reinstalling windows I'm not able to install my old image manipulation program (too old to run on latest windows).

I've installed GIMP but that might be the wrong tool for what I want to do.

1. Select a section of a .bmp screenshot for use at the right aspect ratio:

+ sharpen image to make it look more defined at the small size
+ scale to 160*120px
+ save as .jpg ready to rename to the map name+a sequence number ready for use

I used to be able to do this by cropping and scaling to the size wanted, then pressing a function key bound to sharpen/save as optimised.

Can anyone tell me how to do this speedily so that I can continue grabbing screen shots and adding them for the server monitor?

you can likely do it all in a button click or two using https://www.irfanview.com/ - it has all kinds of automations built in for stuff like that (I think!) :)

exactly
:10
open shot
shift-U (color correction: which brighten the shot, if not skip it) change gamma only is a pain as its a slider
Ctr-R (Resize: put in 160 and height will be automatically filled in (aspect ratio)
Shift-S (sharpen)
S (save: ctrl-V to insert map name I've copied, add _1 _2 _3 ect. and hit enter
GOTO 10  ;D

or use B for batch conversion or use command line

But..... I've stopped because the images do not include map revisions and are not showed after that.
Rename them is a bit a pain every time.

Ooh! I've not heard of either of those.

Now, how to get one or other doing scaling. sharpen, and save in as few steps as possible?

Yeah, would be good if Lau could do the rename at the same time as uploading the map revision.

That might work. I'll give it a try next time I feel like coding. How many characters?
