Let me present you my Watt OS on my Laptop (coming with LXDE, which uses Openbox as window manager)

Ok, I haven't configured all yet, but setting up all components to make this nice text based audio player (ncmpcpp) running at startup already took me some hours.

The funny thing about my config is that the music player demon starts a little bit too early in which means you will even hear music before you have logged in xD

I think the wallpaper makes it the music and whatever info hard to read.  I'd use something more minimal :)

As you said: Win98 classic style
Hmm kinda boring...

...but one suggestion: how about a plain blue background?

Nothing wrong with 98. Windows 7 looks a bit childish its aero and whatever effects.

Sorry, but I can't be quiet xD

IMO Win98 itself isn't that bad, it's just old fashioned.
WinXP has the most ugly appearance (beside Mac OSX) by default
Win 7 the nicest style you can get (if you change the background and the color of your taskbar)

I know some people will hate me, but I don't care :P

Just trying out the new Ubuntu 12.04 Alpha version (booted up from a USB flash drive) ...

WTF?! The (IMO) best OS gone bad -.-
It looks even worse than a Mac:
All looks very very modern, e.g. the weird task/quickstarter bar on the left  (Ubuntu standard since 2011; Damn new gnome shell)
Also there is no background image or color theme which looks really good -.- (you can see the very best one on the picture)

It's all so minimalistic - there is even no menu bar in the Firefox
Maybe I'm a little bit too old fashioned,  but it seems like computing becomes less comfortable in future...

(Only advantages [hopefully] is: I haven't encountered my sound bug this time and also flashplayer pre-installed [you can watch movies on youtube from beginning])

What do you think about this?

There are other Linux distros. And other WMs.

I've never needed a menu bar in web browser. Waste of space.
