Dead links or missing map REUP

So what is it ?

As you know , downloading maps directly from server is slow : redirect server could be slow or dead sometimes, so the best way is to get the maps directly.

Here the second problem : dead links for direct download. Megaupload ? RIP. Filefront ? DEAD links after a week or so , etc.

I make this topic to correct this problem by downloading maps when noone play on the server , extracting UT cache and reuploading them to multiples direct download websites.

For this , im using this website , that could be useful for other uploaders :

I've selected DepositFiles , RapidShare and Mediafire.
ie. DepositFiles have a captcha and you need to wait 60 sec before downloading , but it work and links are rarely dead. Im suggesting Mediafire for downloading.

Now for the maps , instead of reuploading each map , i decided to make mini mappacks , compressed by 7zip in Zip format without password or other shit.
I'll try to get the size of each mappack under 50mb compressed.
This packs could contain not only dead links but also updated maps , or simply maps that im missing ...

In this case I see kinda two options (but I'm not sure how to execute them):
1. Find a filehoster which doesn't delete them
2. Get your own webspace (or run a server on yourself)

But there is one thing which bugs me: copyrighted music in maps. All the free website hosters forbid  this and you may be punished (you have to make an account which your personals there and they also track your IP)

I hope someone can find a good hoster with anonymous access.

Rapidshare is not bad at all these days either (not waiting time).

Mediafire is ok. Files are never deleted if atleast one of your files is downloaded once a month or so. Unfortunately, many of the maps here have been uploaded by unregistered users, so the links are die soon.

The number of mirrors is irrelevant. If there's many mirrors, there's a higher probability of the file being removed for no downloads.

The best place for uploading maps would be ModDB, I think.

Anyway, currently our redirect server is down. There's another one we could use, but my upload speed is too slow. If anyone wants to help, msg me.

Nobody lets you host illegal content. If they can't detect it, it doesn't mean it's allowed. Use common sense...

Rapidshare is not bad at all these days either (not waiting time).

I registered just to say hell no on that.  Free Rapidshare took 4 hours to download 250mB and could not saturate my cheap-ass 1mBit/s connection.  I don't know if it was a problem on their end as the file seemed to be coming from Germany and in small bursts every second with two second latency gaps.  If that's a mechanism to make people sign up for Rapid Pro, I really do not like it.
