Title: Anti-camping logic information - feel free to suggest tweeks
Post by: Piglet on October 24, 2017, 15:09
Logic in force on Torlan:

Logic in force on VCTF:

Everything here configurable in great detail from area checked to amount of damage and how the push is done.

Great work, Piglet!

Correction
• Own Tank in Other base, or stolen bender tank in your own base: 3 checks before damage kicks in, then 180/3 damage per check

Aha yes, good spot thanks. Hopefully it's right in the code!

How does it feel when playing? Hopefully not at all intrusive - just keeping the game flowing

Raptor out of bounds is a good stuff and it will certainly discourage some players that have taken stolen raptors there. But it is to close to the land I think.. Proper raptor battles are now gone since very soon you fly out and it just drains energy and you're dead.
My suggestion is to push boundary out a little more... just when the shock rifle from land stops hiting raptor hiding out of bounds....
Also the no vehicle on top tower in CTF is although fair, tactically not good, since sometimes you could steal enemy raptor or manta and teach them a lesson. Stealing made for a honour and prize in playing and it felt good, at least for me.. and with raptor out of bounds thing solved... think there is no need for no ehicle on top rule...

Pjanno

The distance was a little further before but people couldn't hit it with shock. What distance from the centre health pickup do you calculate it should be in unreal units?

I also like that raptor duels, but they are not good for the game. It's like the other game, and the real VCTF game is just left without raptors.
Let raptors fight flying around the field and attacking other targets by the way, more fun!

I agree with Pjanno about no raptor on top, it was a good tactic element.

Post by: Piglet on October 31, 2017, 13:36
In the past I've seen raptors left there for a long time, in a position where they couldn't be hit by anyone in the base.

We could extend the time before the raptor is penalised for being there. At the moment it's fairly immediate.

Would that do it for you?

A bit of a wait would be good. Give them time to jump on a taxi raptor when you have the flag. 5 seconds?

Post by: Piglet on October 31, 2017, 17:00
The effective zone doesn't impact the raptor where flag carrier could board (i.e. all around the edge of the tower) - it just prevents the blocking of the portal and crushing of players going through it.

I don't think I've ever seen a flag carrier getting on to a raptor while it's on the portal.

It's doable, usually shield jump needed. I'm not convinced it's not fine just the way it is. Hell, Pablo still hasn't figured out he can't base camp anymore. :)

LOL at poor Pablo. Waiting for raptor on top to bounce is good idea, 5secs is ok, more than enough cause otherwise enemy is already shooting at you with shockrifles if youre not prepared.

O, man. I thought it is standard thing every good player does. I did that many times as a flagcarrier and as a raptor pilot. It takes some good teamwork, but it's cool.

Can we have a anti-camping thing for Torlan map , you know specially for the players who only hide and shoot at the NODES and stop them from getting made , maybe they get health reduction if they  stayed at the same spot for more than a few seconds or a minute or two , it would really be helpful , hopefully someone will agree with me
Title: Re: Anti-camping logic information - feel free to suggest tweeks
Post by: Piglet on November 04, 2017, 13:35
That is something I've thought about too.

You'd have to ensure that it wasn't someone in a turret...as it's hard to move very far in one of those.

I'll have a ponder
Title: Re: Anti-camping logic information - feel free to suggest tweeks
Post by: Caracal on November 04, 2017, 15:27
How do you think to do it? Step left, step right and all that anti-things will not work.
Just go and kill the camper/spankiller that bothers you. It's just a matter of team game, that smn should make cover.
About those lightning gun campers preventing node from being built - you can place a vehicle between camper and the node (raptor or jumping bender). If your team links the node, even 1 miss (vehicle hit) will be enough to make that camper fail.
Title: Re: Anti-camping logic information - feel free to suggest tweeks
Post by: Krellsan on November 04, 2017, 15:36
it can be realized like on deathmatch servers - if you stay, u have drained health dot. And moving campers is easier to find and terminate. But. Turrets. Moving and flying and jumping turrets sound awesome. but i guess they didnt work like that.

i'll have to agree with Caracal Mr blacks is always my first priority if i play against him, i alreaddy know all his spots>.<
so just like Caracal said its a matter of team game just 1 player needs to take initiative for killing those turret campers. i do know its annoying as .... but it aint that hard.

Quote from: Caracal on November 04, 2017, 15:27Step left, step right and all that anti-things will not work.

It all depends on the code you'd use. Some of the spots are quite specific, and as there's no reason to stand still on ONS...ever...it could be done.

In Freon you get hit with an increasing penalty every time you are spotted camping. Unfortunately part of that game type is standing by your teammates unfreezing them - and the logic hasn't been fixed on some servers and you get penalised for playing well!

(I haven't done any coding on this btw...and it's not on the list)

I think I found a bug/glitch. Yesterday I've pushed enemy flag carrier out of map with shock combo, he fell down somewhere below their base and... he scored a point. I think it may be somehow related to that damage area around map (for raptors) and its equivalent near the flag.
Title: Re: Anti-camping logic information - feel free to suggest tweeks
Post by: Piglet on November 11, 2017, 23:30
Wierd. That's not something I've seen before. I've seen players pushed all the way back to their base - been pushed that way myself.

As I wrote the code I can be absolutely sure that the damage areas cannot possibly be related to that issue with the flag/points in any way. They only have an effect on vehicles (and anyone who happens to be in them).
Title: Re: Anti-camping logic information - feel free to suggest tweeks
Post by: Dr Bazillus on November 12, 2017, 07:46
Ive seen something like that before, too. Two times in one match I pushed the flag carriers into the first hole, in front of our base. There was no raptor waiting, no alien jump. He/She just felt down the map, then he/she scored.

Some days ago, as I was shot while I was carrying the flag and ballz was carrying me on his raptor
As I was crouching, I just stood in the middle of nowhere and didn't fall
I waited like 2 min (and god knows that  it's a long period in the game) and big ballz came with a new raptor, picked me up and made me score
So u can be shot and score though

the same effect can happen on other vehicles, if you crouch on manta, and you get shot, you levitate in the air. looks very funny
Title: Re: Anti-camping logic information - feel free to suggest tweeks
Post by: Caracal on December 07, 2017, 14:35
That's a very old trick (bug) from UT (1999). When you sit on smth thin and it moves, you stay in that place even if it is in the air.
It was even worse, it was image drop trick. Meaning that in such situation your image is projected somewhere on the ground. So you become invisible, and players are shooting your image without any effect. In UT2004 you can rarely become invisible like that, but also possible. Didn't you see "fire from the sky"?
I've seen that situations when a flagcarrier is shot from raptor and don't fall, waiting for another raptor.

But you cant fall and just freeze on the way. It's not how this bug works. Only if you are shot from the vehicle.

You know, its possible to stay in that hole from where an alien jump is done?

No, but if you can show me where the bender has to be to do that (and it's an exploit) I can fix it. If you just mean where the benders are at each side and not cheating then less likely to do anything about it

Pics please :)

Hi guys. I have a proposition for VCTF FaceClassic raptor out of bounds automatic health lowering and eventual destruction.
The way it is now you go out of bounds and as I take it it takes three those imploding thingies to destroy your raptor. Now in the pause between those three imploding explosions raptor is disoriented and practically unmanageable. So you have no chance of escaping the no fly zone. I propose to extend the time between implosions for a few seconds more so raptor driver can get out of danger zone and fly to land...

Thanks

I agree. I created it for a reason. You can stray in there for up to a few seconds, but if you're playing the game there's no reason to be there.

The effect of this area has been that nobody's kept a raptor out of bounds and spoiled a game.

It will be all the same. Your raptor will be damaged if you stay long in that zone, and it will not change. The only thing that will change, that it will become a warning and you can get out of zone before the raptor blows up.

It's a bit like the base portal on Torlan on top of the base towers. Put a manta or raptor on one to kill players going through it and my code will fairly quickly put an end to it. Most people will never be impacted as in normal play you are never there.

How do people feel about campers on the side walls leading up to middle node sitting there for ages stopping the node from being built? Is that something that makes the game more fun for most players?
Title: Re: Anti-camping logic information - feel free to suggest tweeks
Post by: Dr Bazillus on January 16, 2018, 13:13
Isn´t camping on top of torlan tower at all forbidden, except in the case your team has the majority of the nodes?
Dont say the server rules clearly no? :hmm:

"Server rules: ......
5. No camping at enemy power core unless your team has captured more nodes.
Failure to follow this simple set of rules can result in a ban from our server(s)."

To answer your question: No, it doesn´t make a game more funny if players are camping at unlocked nodes to prevent that they are builded. No matter which node.
But on the other side, fighting at the middle node is normal (If it can be built.).

Imho the anti-camping changes in game - torlan and vctf - are a good thing (Except for Dcnr  ;) :D ).

Post by: tirofijo!! on January 16, 2018, 16:53
i think it must be allowed only in the nodes that are being fighted for, in the frontline of war to say it, the other in the rear should be considered spawnkill and lame play. Also, yes Dcnr is a pain in the ass, the size of a cucumber.
Title: Re: Anti-camping logic information - feel free to suggest tweeks
Post by: Piglet on January 16, 2018, 20:22
I'm particularly looking at the antics of players like 'blacks' and 'donkey'. They find a spot hidden from being easily found and each time the node is started they fire a single shot which stops it from being able to get built. If they pick the right spot the node can be locked down indefinitely

Piglet didn´t you said one time, that every spawnkiller can be shot down/be defeaten? sometimes if you cant even get a weapon than its hard to do said. and for me spawnkilling permanently with vehicles, is not only childish and ruin games, its a sort of sabbin vehicles.
see the beginning of the video and you see what i mean:

New mission. Play vs House, spawnkill as much as you can ;)
Lets help him learn how to handle that.

I spawn kill for a while if a map reaches stalemate or I get stranded without transport. I'm happy to stop the enemy team starting node 2 if I can in Torlan.

What I see as problematic is where players do it repeatedly and waste a player slot and a vehicle doing it. If someone is spawn killing the best option is either not to fire and leave them to it or to go after them and frag them

If you cant withstand spawnkillers doesn't mean it ruins games.
Funny is to see someone crying about those who play by the rules and have more skills.

All that difficult things like spawnkilling and snipering node from being constructed - are challenging and therefore interesting. You have to manage that and do smth smarter than just run&gun.

Yeah im totally your oppinion. For a while, or without vehicle to get away - okay. But not the whole time! Some players doin´ nothin other. And try to get away when you cant even move without dyin....

I agree that doing spawnkilling all game long is not good.
Sometimes I have to take Avrill and stay around the node that is under spawnkill attack for a while (or in turret). After you kill spawnkilling manta before it even get close 3 times in a row, that player usually change his tactic.
Some advices.
1) Don't fire before you get weapons - you have some protection time after spawn.
2) Just change node where you spawn with right mouse click on the map in menu.
3) Use shield gun. It can kill manta that is trying to overrun you.

Thx Caracal! I know these kind of strategy but sometimes, or better said some players are just so annoyingly spawnkilling that all you have to do, in match, is to stop them... So there´s not much time left to defend or get their flag/build up nodes....
Maybe there should be a limit for spawnkillers and after it they loose health for every spawnkilled person:D:D Just a joke.
We have to play the game like it is... Like in real life: Do the best outta the things/the situations you have!:);)

A very minor change to ONS code is now on the server.  Can anyone who I've not told spot the difference?

Interesting that nobody's spotted it (or complained). That means it's probably working perfectly.

Have you seen fewer stale-mated nodes that nobody can build?

Even though it's working, I want changes to have as little impact on performance as possible. There's (from now) a more efficient but possibly less effective version of the code on the server. If nodes appear to reach stalemate regularly, please let me know.

Exactly, I don't mind if someone spawnkills for a while, hell I do it to from tower in CTF but I soon get bored and join the game downstairs or try to take the flag...
But I'm with House on this...and god knows I've written about dcnr more than once and his continuall dishonor if I may call it that

I don't think that I'm convinced that there's any need for a change. I can't see any legitimate reason for being there.
Can this get a tweak?
At the moment when you get shot to far back in face with shock/twin from the opponent player, you better of suicide rather recover back to tower because you wont able to get back in time due to the raptor will receive to much damage for you to get back.

This is a thing needs to be fixed somehow. because 250dmg/pop ( if i recall) is a bit overkill. Specially if you are badly damaged already.

Well, the bender twin beam is meant to be high damage. They get one shot from a stationary target. You're mobile and able to disrupt the bender aim by shooting it.

Just do as much damage as you can to the bender/enemy or distract enemy players from other  attackers before you die

This apply 99% for the shock imho. twin can do this to.

Yes, you shoot and dodge/hide away, until you are to far back on your own side again. Good luck getting back on time.

So there you are, out of range,  badly damaged and knocked back to far off, able to hide and/or no enemy can shoot you.
Trying to get back to be fixed up and 3 sec later your raptor is saying *poef* nice.......
