Yeah BB4Win is port of the BlackBox Linux Window Manager for windows 95 and up. That includes XP and 7 aswell. There might be some incompatibilities, but I recommend downloading bbClean which a branch of BB4Win - I find it most cuztomizable and stable.
It's a shell replacement (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Windows_shell_replacement), meaning it will replace your Windows shell (explorer.exe), but you can just run it without installing for checking out, so no harm no foul.
You can get started by downloading latest bbClean: [link] (http://www.lostinthebox.com/download/file.php?id=1826&sid=d2d8d01f21b6f4c5716af730a7783305)
Ask me on Xfire tomarrow or on weekend and I'll hook you up with some must have themes and plug-ins.
It's pretty simple to cuztomize it to your likes. Themes are easy to create and there's already infinite of themes available on web: eg Toxicana (http://toxicana.com/index.php?page=blackbox&p=6&rpp=10&so=Accesses) or dA (http://browse.deviantart.com/?qh=§ion=&q=bb4win).
You might not like it, because it's purpose is to provide an lightweight (takes under 2MB or RAM usually) yet very functional user-interface. So no bells/whistles like in Win7 shell or on Gabriel's screeny.
Lol, kind of long reply.. but I'm a BB fan xD
I will try it tomorrow (it's late and I will go to bed soon)

Hey guys!
I found another good shell replacement. It's called SharpEnviro http://www.sharpenviro.com/wp/ (http://www.sharpenviro.com/wp/)

This is just the unconfigured desktop after the first start.
It looks like Linux with gnome desktop, but it's Windows XP with SharpE
The bars and the menu are transparent
Well, I like to compare it with bblean, like Raj uses:
- you have an integrated player menu (wich not only works for winamp, but for all media players) in the toolbar.
- also there is a switch for virtual desktops (wich worked faster for me than bblean).
- I didn't experience a bug with the tray in the taskbar, but on Win7 I had a bad crash of this shell (maybe becasue i did not install it), also it disables the 3d window switch; but my first tries on winXP were good
- One more option is to replace the explorer with an alternative file browser like explorer² or explorer++ (however, my favorite is the QTabbar for the original explorer)
- it comes with desklets like a weather viewer, clock or a drive monitor
- you also use your normal visual styles for windows
Unfortubately i got a very bad worm on my computer wich i couldn't remove comletely (i get malware and a crashing system everytime i get online), that's why I haven't tested it too far, but it's just my test system anyway

confess, it takes more performance...
However, I'm glad there are some custom shells you can use, but I wonder why all of them have bugs on my systems o.O
Here we have my newest system: Bodhi Linux 1.0.0
http://www.bodhilinux.com/
It's very lightweight and fast, but it still looks great and even runs on very old computers.
There is no style you have to stick with: everything is free configurable, but to make you start faster there are some presets you can choose.
Free configurable and lightweight means in this case: there is just a file manager, webbrowser (Midori - looks like a lightweight mix of Firefox and Opera), text editor and a little system and styling stuff - you have to install all the other things before you can really do what you need.
It's based on Ubuntu 10.04 LTS, but with another shell and windowmanager: Enlightment.
The menu style reminds me to Blackbox.

Just give it a try - The CD only takes about 350 mb.
Of course, it's a Live CD, that means you don't need to install it - just boot up the CD.
Here its my APPLE Theme :)
NC3r0 looks amazing, and Zaid, nice!
Thank you ^^
After reinstalling WinXP I decided not to replace the shell with sharpE because of some bugs and i don't like .net framework 3.5...
Anyway, I gave Black Box one more try and finally got rid of the bugs I had there before ^^
However, here's the result...
[linkimg]http://farm6.static.flickr.com/5265/5734280370_62c9874228_b.jpg[/linkimg]
...and btw, Raj:
I think I have the winamp skin you're looking for (at least the color scheme might fit):
http://www.winampskins.info/3544/cyber-dimension-updated.html
(http://www.winampskins.info/images/cyber_dimension_updated.wsz_big.jpg)
nice^^
However, never tried it (because atm I'm using aimp2 instead of winamp), but what about the plugin "BBWinAmpList" ?
http://bb4win.sourceforge.net/plugins.html
Ah and before I forget: I noticed on Linux I have much better sound than on Windows (no matter which player I'm using).
Specially on Ubuntu I don't need any surround plugin - stereo sounds will automatically upmixed to 5.1 (7.1 also possible) by the default sounddriver. And if that's not enough I have the option to write my own sound effect script^^
Also the Bass is much stronger and the Subwoofer even with default settings set to the perfect frequencies.
Just try it when you have some time ;)
I've tried BBWinAmpList, but it didn't work the way I wanted.
Doesn't matter anyway, since I like to keep the number of plug-ins small as possible. I don't need the playlist most of the time.
Not interested in Ubuntu, no matter how great the sound it has "out of the box".
WinXP on my Thinkpad...

There's bbstylemaker if you want to make something nicer :P
I used bbstylemaker. I wanted everything in white, but with some thin black borders for more overview.
However, maybe I will change the font later
*fixed*
OK, not a big difference xD
[linkimg]http://fc07.deviantart.net/fs71/f/2011/166/8/a/blackbox_whitewindows_by_n3cr0t1c-d3izkuq.jpg[/linkimg]
I know, I'm bugging you, but I thought about porting this style to Linux so I Installed Fluxbox, the successor of BlackBox.
[linkimg]http://fc03.deviantart.net/fs71/f/2011/166/3/5/fluxbox_xcompmgr_on_mythinkpad_by_n3cr0t1c-d3izls1.png[/linkimg]
I have already fixed some issues, but it's still far away from perfection.
I will add some features later... I hope I can find a small symbol bar, If not I will enable desktop icons...
also couldn't find sth like bbinterface until yet -.-
Quote from: raj@wifi on June 14, 2011, 14:38
Getting nicer! ;)
I don't like the choice of font though, kind of huge xD
Yea, I didn't like to look on the internet for some other fonts, but I like its look - the only Issue is: if I make it just a little bit smaller it will be too small. I hope I will find something similar with other size
Quote
What you did with fluxbox can be achieved on Windows with bbLean aswell.
There's also another box for Linux called Openbox that you may want to try. It was originally based on Blackbox, but was later completely rewritten.
True...
However, I have read a little bit about other box style WMs, like waimea, white box, openbox, awesome WM,... what a huge list xD
Anyway, Fluxbox seems to be the most popular, but Openbox seems to be better (I will try it later). Fortunately Ubuntu has the option to choose the shell you want at login so I will have no problem to try one more :D
Btw, I have replaced the Gkrellm shell (which I ran into the slit) With Conky - a fully configurable (content, transparency, colors of anything, layout, bg image...) sytem monitor
Icons will get changed later
Unfortunately the only good *box compatible composite manager (responsible for effects like transparency) has some issues with the graphics driver (mobility radeons are energy saving but suck at functionality-.-) so it slows down the system, specially workspace switching -.-

I've put the terminal emulator "Terminator" hidden on my desktop (so you can only see the text), splitted it in 2 terminals - the left one runs my text based music player (mp3blaster) at system start.
Unfortunately this system has some weird bugs which made it unbootable after I set some power saving functions.

The funny thing about my config is that the music player demon starts a little bit too early in which means you will even hear music before you have logged in xD

As you said: Win98 classic style
Hmm kinda boring...
...but one suggestion: how about a plain blue background?
Nothing wrong with 98. Windows 7 looks a bit childish its aero and whatever effects.
ladies plueez!? you look beautiful whatever you're wearing ;D
Sorry, but I can't be quiet xD
IMO Win98 itself isn't that bad, it's just old fashioned.
WinXP has the most ugly appearance (beside Mac OSX) by default
Win 7 the nicest style you can get (if you change the background and the color of your taskbar)
I know some people will hate me, but I don't care :P
Just trying out the new Ubuntu 12.04 Alpha version (booted up from a USB flash drive) ...
[linkimg]http://img96.imageshack.us/img96/2153/screenshotat20120119183.png[/linkimg]
WTF?! The (IMO) best OS gone bad -.-
It looks even worse than a Mac:
All looks very very modern, e.g. the weird task/quickstarter bar on the left (Ubuntu standard since 2011; Damn new gnome shell)
Also there is no background image or color theme which looks really good -.- (you can see the very best one on the picture)
It's all so minimalistic - there is even no menu bar in the Firefox
Maybe I'm a little bit too old fashioned, but it seems like computing becomes less comfortable in future...
(Only advantages [hopefully] is: I haven't encountered my sound bug this time and also flashplayer pre-installed [you can watch movies on youtube from beginning])
What do you think about this?
There are other Linux distros. And other WMs.
I've never needed a menu bar in web browser. Waste of space.
Thanks for your reply.
Well, there are some functions in Firefox where you have no hotkey and also there are some special functions where I don't know the hotkey - for example I couldn't access the options menu ...
Anyway, the long term support for my Ubuntu 10.04 ends this year, so I better install sth new. There I have multiple options, but I'm not sure what to choose:
1. install Arch Linux and set up all from scratch (very much work, maybe issues with configuring the surround sound)
2. install Linux Mint (fewest work, maybe some sound issues/incompatibilities)
3. hopefully there will be a fluxbox version of Ubuntu (because Ubuntu has the best support and out-of-the-box-working)
4. building my own shell using another window manager under Ubuntu
5. if possible trying to downgrade from gnome 3 to gnome 2 (under Ubuntu)
From what I've heard, Arch is like the best thing ever. Go for it.
I'd use it too, but can't live without Photoshop and MS Office. Even UnrealED is Windows-only.
Thanks
hmm Photoshop - ok I guess GIMP is not enough for you
MS Office - not sure what you are doing at all, but if you don't need M$ Access, open office would do the job too.
UnrealED: never tried, but I've read it works with wine (but I think you should use the same gamefiles to play the game and use the editor)
...And one thing about Arch Linux: I've tried it on my PC - had some issues getting the surround sound running; also have it on my laptop - works well, except of the power consumption (although I have installed "laptop-mode"): Ubuntu is by far the most power saving OS.
But I recommend you to try it out and install it as a 2nd OS next to Windows (or on another drive).
A project I should have shown you some time earlier xD
Arch Linux on my Lenovo Thinkpad R400 (sorry for the bad quality)

OK, maybe kinda a joke, but I was too lazy to install a login manager. Anyway, I only start my xserver when I need - It's still comfortable for me :P
...and now my Xserver with Openbox (sorry again for the bad quality: my screencapture tool couldn't record my transparent/invisible task bar and it also made an ugly frame on the picture)

Oh I see you have finally upgraded to Win7^^
;D My Desktop,
To the above pix, no wonder you're into UDK. That computer of yours must be super upgraded!
Anyways, below is my newly recovered desktop. I was having problem with my graphics. Did a recovery on my hard drive. But I have the beta copy of KF3 - woohoo!
Win 7 at last - dx11 ^^
Never did a recovery...
Useless info, we have ladybirds all over the place.
And btw: my Windows 7 desktop:
[linkimg]http://fc07.deviantart.net/fs70/f/2012/043/b/6/windows_7_ultimate_by_n3cr0t1c-d4phsh9.jpg[/linkimg]
Because Windows generally sucks on default settings, I had to extend it a bit with some useful features:
- Qtabbar for the explorer
- windowspager (for virtual desktops like under Linux)
- winroll (rolling in windows or making them transparent)
i'm on win7 :) just change theme etc
Makes me feel bad that I never revealed my workspace :P
Well, I have two computers, one which runs Win7 + Ubuntu 10.04, and the one below (yuck, Vista :'()
Pretty nice!
I want that tools in the upper middle.
that's Rainmeter. Quite a resource hog.
It is, but Rainmeter is by far the best Windows-compatible program I've found to date :)

My MAC laptop
Just tried Windows 8 consumer preview on my virtual machine.
[linkimg]http://img864.imageshack.us/img864/2504/win8.jpg[/linkimg]
New features like the option to open the cmd from the directory you are in with the explorer.
But that's all about the improvements...
The start menu is one of this very modern kind. Looks like all try to copy apple and their iphone.
Well, that's ok in this case, but what really sucks is the task manager: it only tells you which apps are running. Also you can only shutdown the computer with [ctrl]+[alt]+[del].
Solitaire is sorted under xbox live and only runs in fullscreen mode xD
And at last the driver support: I could even not access my network because of a missing driver.
PS: the desktop mode looks like Windows 7
My biggest problem with Windows 8 is the new Metro GUI. It's flat and boxy, while the Aero shell is glossy and rounded. It just doesn't blend and it looks rather... ugly.
It's performance doesn't bother me as much, I know it'll get hacked and modded to perform like in the days of old eventually :P
IMO just stick with your old OS until there is no other way than upgrading.
Was suggested by N3Cr0 that I share this here, it's just a spare-time production :D
Only problems are with the Windows shells itself, I'm just too lazy to run Resource Hacker atm :\

And the "best Miasma fan" award goes to sonar!
You should try out X2 btw: http://zabkat.com/x2lite.htm
:D
I see you're enjoying your meme faces :P
I'll give X2 a try, see how it works, an dI might make this available for download at a later date, when I tweak it a bit.
yeah I added a whole bunch of those faces as emoticons lol
My face when I clicked [more]:
:win:
Now, with X2, is it worth paying for or am I better off just sticking with the free version?
hehe
I'd stick with lite version and get pro if I really need the extra features.
For me, lite does everything I need - tabs, all folders open in same window, mass renaming, cmd from addressbar, filters, splitting, shredding and more :)
Yep, great one, but let me suggest two more options:
- Qtabbar (if you only need tabs) - requires .net framework 3.5 under WinXp - works out of the box under Windows 7
- Explorer ++ (which I am using under Windows XP) almost the same features like Explorer 2
x2 with like 17 tabs open - takes ~10 MB RAM. I've yet to find another filemanager this lightweight and powerful.
Is there a way to restore the last opened tabs when I start X² lite?
It's only listed in the pro version -.-
Options - general - store program state
Maybe newer versions don't have this feat.

Hehe, I just tested it out, got to about 20-25 tabs before it matched the RAM usage of Windows Explorer :P
Did you have 25 explorer windows opened aswell?
Here's another nice filemanager by the way:
[linkimg]http://i.imgur.com/ccVMg.png[/linkimg]
No, just the usual Explorer window and taskbar. But my PC is patched and customized, and all that shit, so I'm not surprised explorer.exe is using so much resources.
Ahh I tell you, I'm feeling comfortable with my Windows now! ^^

I have installed Cygwin (similar to wine, but kinda the opposite - Linux apps ported to Windows). Now I can enjoy the feeling of Linux in Windows.
(irssi using cygterm and PuTTY in background)
And btw about all those file managers, Raj: There is mc (Midnight Commander) - a non-graphical filemanager - running
I've been spoiled by Windows. I don't think I'd get used to a completely non graphical filemanager.
Anyway, I'm trying to move to using NexusFile. Modified the default skin to suit my needs:
[linkimg]http://fc07.deviantart.net/fs70/i/2012/082/8/7/sharpblack_skin_for_nexusfile_by_rajliv-d4tpaeq.png[/linkimg]
Oh gosh, NexusFile is looking very nice with what looks like your Darko theme :P
What I'd really like, is a file manager that has browsing controls like Opera :D (Example: Hold RMB + Move left -> Previous folder)
Well thanks.
For mouse gestures you could try these:
http://www.tcbmi.com/strokeit/ - should work on whatever file manager
http://www.sqoshsoft.co.uk/programs/gest/ - only for Explorer I think
I personally find backspace a lot faster way to move back/up.
StrokeIt worked pretty well until I opened Opera and the gestures wouldn't work -.-
But after a bit of configuring
:everythingwentbetter:
Double-post so this will show up as 'New!':
Alright, you guys are gonna get another peek at my desktop, because I dun' fucked it up this time.
The bar outlined in blue should not exist, and the bar outlined in red should be where the bar outlined in blue is. There is only one blackbox.exe running, and the bottom bar has no functionality whatsoever.
[LINKIMG]http://i.imgur.com/BWoSH.png[/LINKIMG]
Kill blackbox.exe and restart it?
btw lol at black MS Word page color. :D
Yeah, I've tried EVERYTHING to fix blackbox, I'm considering just wiping and reinstalling it as it won't affect my themes '^^
I've also found out that StrokeIt caused the problem as I somehow managed to "minimize" and "maximize"the bbLean interface with it. This screwed up all my settings, forcing me to edit blackbox.rc to get the second bar at the top (which doesn't work the same) and the first bar lost all functionality. It's like a .jpg o.O
And yeah, Microsoft Word derped on me a bit :D , I have to manually set the font color to black before I e-mail this essay or else my teacher will get 7 pages of white.
ANOTHER UPDATE: If I use StrokeIt to maximize the bar at the bottom, it restores the functionality, but then I have THREE bars on my desktop -.-
ANOTHER ANOTHER UPDATE: A wipe and reinstall worked perfectly fine :))
In light of my previous error, here's a functioning Flint theme:

That's DesktopInfo (http://www.glenn.delahoy.com/software/). In theory you can even monitor gameservers with it :)
There's another app for Windows that you might like too - BGInfo (http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/sysinternals/bb897557). It's part of the SysInternals suite (http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/sysinternals/bb842062) (useful stuff).

I used Chrome before, but sometimes it asked to save my passwords, sometimes not - I looked at Help, but that didn't help. Sometimes Chrome remembered last page visisted or not, but Opera is consistent. Although Opera has occasional problems with downloads: http://udn.epicgames.com/Three/ParticleSpriteSubUVEmitterTutorial.html try dl, bottom of the page. But usually Opera is np with dl. Opera Resume / Stop dl is also a good option that Chrome does not have - last i looked ^^

Worked fine for me. If you couldn't dl it, did you try right-clicking > Save Linked Content As...?

Yeap, sometimes Opera thinks you want to open a file in their browser instead of download. Could even be a problem on Epic's side.
Right click -> Save... works always.

If you mean the replacement as a bad thing, you should be able to undo it.
From X2 menu -> Options -> Advanced -> Undo Explorer replacement.
Nononono, x2 replacement is a GOOD thing :D
Cool. I think I'm gonna buy the pro version soon. Native 64 bit and a ton of features :)
I keep my QTabBar ;)
A Commandprompt button is useless because you also got this option in context menu by [Shift]+Rightclick.
Dunno I don't use that button.

Pretty, but the resized image looks better than the original xD
I think it's your coolest style so far :)
Except maybe the wall - Enma Ai symbol looks kind of distracting for me.
I see you're using the same font always, here's more pixel fonts if you're interested in trying something new:

http://www.proggyfonts.com/index.php?menu=download
http://damieng.com/creative/typography/envy-code-a

I wish there were pixel fonts for 14+ pt.
You think that wouldn't make any sense, but I like to see pixels - it's a pretty design.
Terminus goes all the way up to 28. Enjoy :P
Thanks! Now I've got the right font for each occasion.
Yeah, the only reason I've been using the font that's there is because it supports Japanese kana.
Sorry, but I had to compress it and it's still 15MB

Anyone have any thoughts about getting a Dreamscene wallpaper to work under bbLean?
I haven't tried it with bblean, but it should be no problem: In bblean you can make themes with wallpaper and let bblean manage it, but you can also disable this feature and set wallpapers the common way.
The only important thing is finding the right download link for your OS.
Win7 32bit: http://www.chip.de/downloads/DreamScene-fuer-Windows-7-32-Bit_40791573.html (http://www.chip.de/downloads/DreamScene-fuer-Windows-7-32-Bit_40791573.html)
win7 64bit: http://www.chip.de/downloads/DreamScene-fuer-Windows-7-64-Bit_40791067.html (http://www.chip.de/downloads/DreamScene-fuer-Windows-7-64-Bit_40791067.html)
(64bit version:1. Copy the .dll into .../system32/;2. the .mui to .../system32/en-US/ [no matter which country you are from]; 3. Apply the registry patch.)
Before you can use this tool, you have to restart after installing.
But keep in mind: this tool is only useful in cold winter: my GPU switches from idling 2D mode to low 3D mode with 35%+ load. That increases the GPU-clock 8 times and rises the temperature from 32°C to 40°C
It also stops the animation if you run a window maximized - you can resume/pause it in the context menu on the wallpaper (Desktop), but this will not work in bblean. So if you switch to another workspace, it will probably not move.
N3Cr0 didn't like my blackbox colors, so here's a bit diff variant:
[linkimg]http://fc03.deviantart.net/fs71/f/2012/184/8/b/nixot_blue___blackbox_and_trying_out_conemu_by_rajliv-d55ueq3.png[/linkimg]
Also found a cool toggleable console: http://code.google.com/p/conemu-maximus5/
It's possible to use it like UT2004 console on top of your screen lol
:)
Finally a usable Quake style console for Windows. ^^
Fukken d/l'ed.
Having second thoughts about this app actually. Looks cool and all, but takes over 60 MBs of RAM...
Here's a tutorial to a Quake style console using Console2 by the way:
http://tech.xster.net/tips/quake-style-drop-down-terminal-for-windows/
Seems to work somewhat better for me, only using 30~40 mb. Still, after using it for a bit, I'm not really liking its features :\
One thing I missed to show you: my second attempt with Bodhi Linux (a minimal Ubuntu derivate).
- Objective: setting up a HTPC on low-end hardware (first generation Intel Atom 330)
- After no player could really play FullHD movies on this device (no older Linux derivates or Windows XP with best codecs) I decided to use a newer lighweight system and the newest version of the good olde Xbox Media Canter
- Of course, I can comfortably control the whole system with my IR remote control
[linkimg]http://fc09.deviantart.net/fs71/f/2012/214/2/7/htpc___bodhi_by_n3cr0t1c-d59ijy9.jpg[/linkimg]

I noticed these newer versions of the software I'm using come with many improvements:
Bodhi Linux became a little bit more stable and the Enlightenment 17 Desktop has an automatic window tiling feature now. It also comes with PCManFM (the best filemanager - lightweight, but feature rich) again.
And the newest XBMC makes full use of the multi threading technology, which allows this computer to play FullHD videos.
Also they fixed the youtube plugin so I can finally watch youtube videos in XBMC again (there are also many other video portals available).
I don't think HTPCs need to be high end at all.
I remember watching 1080p movies on my old Dell D620 laptop, which could barely run UT2004 :)
Anyway, cool setup.
Well, I do hard to understand that you need at least a 2GHz CPU to run fullHD movies without frame loss.
This is the very maximum of performance my CPU can run, but the framerate is a bit low. To remember: it's a dual core processor with 1.6 GHz.
On the other hand there were modded old XBoxes with 1.4 (or at least 1.0) GHz instead of the 738 MHz (all Intel Pentium III mobile), which could handle these movies.
Here is mine.

If you ask me, I better install linux, than this or even buy mac... nah. I really think install Ubuntu as a second OS, but honestly I still didn't decided for what purposes it needed. Yep, web-surf, work, etc., it's ok with Ubuntu and I like gnome environment more than crappy aero in W7. But games... sure, there is wine or steam. Oh well, I'm still wonder about.
Heh, I really like Nova launcher. No unneccessary features, usefull and customisable. Reminds my default launcher, but have moar features.

Speaking of which, I need to get a new phone now. My Ace II x hit the floor and the digitizer shattered, so now it doesn't recognize touch input.
Also, I was planning on having three different OS installations on my desktop:
Win7 -> Games
OS X -> Work, school, general use
Ubuntu -> If either of the first two fuck up and I need access to their file systems
I already have Win7 and Ubuntu, but it appears I'll have to buy a whole new hard-drive just to install OS X on it... I can get to theinstallation screens off the USB disk but I can't choose an install destination :\
Woah, 3 OS at same time? Too much, isn't it? :D Oh, sad to know about your broken phone. Sadly, shit happens...
Maybe someday I buy a console for games and then move to Ubuntu permanently. But for now... dunno.

~50GB HFS+ partition, no OS installed yet
I think the problem with the drive/partitions not showing up in the OS X install dialog is a side-effect of MBR, and all the patches/workarounds I've tried have failed so far in making anything (that isn't an external drive) appear in the drive list.
But I don't know enough about this sort of thing to say for sure :P

Why not attach the drive internally, install OSX, then use the drive externally afterwards by setting the boot option to that drive?

Because the OS X Installer won't recognize any storage drives connected to my motherboard through SATA or IDE, and it won't install to an external drive without some form of corruption. :)
I've all but given up on it, anyway. I've got OS X in a VM on an Intel Core i5 laptop with 12GB of RAM, so I don't really need to do a full-blown install anyway. I just can't do anything graphically intense, like 3D rendering.

You know you like Opera too much when:
[linkimg]http://downloads.xdesktopwallpapers.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/07/Opera%20LoGo%20On%20Blue%20Dotted%20Background.jpg[/linkimg]
Opera is only good for mobile phones tbh, it really lacks on the desktop end.
Somebody must be using Opera 15.
Have you tried Opera 12.16? It's full of features!
I use opera 17 and everything's fine

Don't mind the URL, it's SFW. Safer URL for children (if applicable).

Thread revival again. Some time has passed, some new members.
Just wanna kind of vent at how happy I am that I no longer have to put up with Win8's shitty GUI. I finally remembered about looking up some visual styles and such, found a few nice masks to cover up Metro, and damn, does it feel nice. It's almost impossible to tell I'm running Win8 just by looking at it.
Wallpaper's pretty generic, ripped it from Google Images. Shellstyle is Elune for Windows 8. The Start Menu replacement I'm using is StartIsBack. It's a near-perfect imitation of the start menu in Windows 7 & Vista, and completely removes the need for the Tiles screen.

Y'know, I probably would run the actual Win98 OS if there were modern drivers and software for it...
Time to revive this old thread.

Wallpaper is blue and black gradient. Exciting, dramatic, creative!

@Njordr:
You definitely need a better window manager, or at least setup some virtual workspaces ;)
You can't make Windows 10 look nice, they said. Good themes will never happen, they said. CUSTOM SHELLS will never happen, they said.
So I made one myself.
Still a lot of work to do, but it's an interesting experience I will say. Creating it in, of all things, Rainmeter. Start Menu and title bars are still the same, of course, but no taskbar. At least this way I can make things look the way I want.
