[MiA] Servers / Miasma warfare server forced nickname
« Last post by Gil-galad on July 25, 2026, 19:33 »
Hello ladies and gents,

I understand that Miasma Warfare forces a ending on nicknames corresponding to the country of origin of the IP address of the player.
I also understand that sometimes, an admin may decide to force a nickname onto a player, because of whatever (players 'hiding' behind another nickname, etc).

I don't know in which case I fall, but I have an issue with how it's working for me. From my end, miasma warfare forces me to adapt a nickname formatted as Gil-galad_(PT), displayed as Gil-galad (PT) in the server.

Overall, since it's the rule on Warfare, I have no complaints while playing there ; I have seldom changed my nick anyway, but there's something that have bothered me for a long while now. When I join another server, my nick, which I deem to be Gil-galad (no ending), is displayed as Gil-galad_(PT), which is not my choice or wish, because it's cumbersome and ugly.  Tolkien didn't write it like that, and I intend, when it's my choice, for it to be displayed like I want it, clean and simple.

The point being that Miasma Warfare changes my nickname when I join the server, because of its own rules. I can accept that, there's arguably some valid reasons to do so, in the interest of the players. What I want it to not have to change my nick manually every time I play elsewhere, nor for my nickname to be displayed as Gil-galad_(PT).

So I don't know how it's doing that for me, why my nick is changed on my local files when I join the server instead of just being displayed differently in the server. my end goal, here, is for my nickname not to be altered in such a way when I join other servers ; I do not think a legitimate solution is to change that manually each time I chose to play elsewhere.

furthermore, I don't think other players have to do that, to the best of my knowledge, and I’m a bit miffed by this possible differential treatment if that's the case.
If you could enlighten me, it'd be much welcome

I'm asking for the server to use a solution that is practical and results in my nick to be unaltered when I join other servers.

Thank you (Both)!  Resolved similar issue.

For speakers users, be sure you set AutoHRTF to False in ut2004.ini.
HRTF is only good/makes sens if you use headphones.

Today (7/24/2026) I applied the recent patch, and immediately my game sound is hollow / tinny.  It even makes my ears feel annoyed and makes me question whether I want to play.  Anyone know what happened?  Or how I can improve it?   I appreciate those who make the game better and keep it alive with patches, but ... i guess no good deed goes unpunished.

Will try something else for a bit.

More frequent of force to choose less played maps but also allowing the repeat of more played ones more often too.

That is why a compromise is a forced new map vote list every 2 rounds. So, every 40 mins you are forced to try a new map. And funnily , once a good map is identified , people vote for it all the time and it becomes a top map ;)

The problem with doing that is that the same maps will get voted because people log on throughout the evening and vote the same maps. So the people that don't enjoy them have to endure hours of them getting voted. There are so many maps on the server but half of them never get played, so I personally like the new voting system.

A "shit" map to you is actually good to someone else, so it's important the server carers for all players. I'm personally not a fan of small, spammy, spawn killing maps which seem to be voted 90% of the time. I get called out by some players for speccing them but it's my choice not to play.

It's hard to reach a compromise to please all players. Maybe you should vote random and hope to get lucky  :D

Hi,

I played nearly 2 hours last night and did not have NO_NAME , RIP, EDGE and a ton of other maps up for revoting. Whoever coded the new gap times between maps are forgetting that most people dont have more than 30  min - 1 hour to spare for gaming each day if lucky lol.

So, maps should be possible to vote at a minimum once per hour?

Pease fix it. The best way to force new maps maybe is by:

1. Admins force one and collect live feedback
2. Make a new map only map list which will be compulsory to vote every say 2 rounds. However, the list should not have only shit maps. It should be a mix and match. Btw, shit maps also can be fun and someone took the time to make it :) But like products, some common factorss like wep lockers etc are important for success. That is for another day.

Please fix guys :)

Thanks

Hi  ;D

After finally getting fed up with the wired Logitech G502, I bought myself a wireless Logitech G502X Plus.
This mouse is noticeably lighter and fits better in the hand.
The sensor’s accuracy should also be better now, and the additional buttons are easier to reach.
Just like with the Logitech G502, the weapon buttons can be assigned intuitively, making it easier to select the right weapon at the right moment.
In case anyone else is interested, here are some photos of the settings I use while playing.
