Helpdesk / Professional sabber
« Last post by SaintHappening on September 05, 2025, 02:53 »
User name of the 'bad actor' was Hulio (IT) today.
Never before seen any constant sabbing in four matches as bad as what this person was doing.  Knew just what to do to cause problems for own team.  71 minutes of problems.  Don't really understand why I stayed to try to stop it.

U can copy/past to new pc just fine. (Don't drop it in program files but in C:\UT2004 for example)
After that you need to get the CD key from the old computer to "register" it on the new PC.

at old computer:

* Run regedit and go to "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE \ SOFTWARE \ Wow6432Node \ Unreal Technology" or search for "CDKey"
* Right click on "Unreal Technology" name and select Export, give it a name and location and click save. (this file contains your UT2004 CDKEY, view/modify the file to check it contains the CDKey)

then you can:
a) run the reg file on the new pc to register ut again (if the old PC has a 32bit windows installation skip this part) or
b) run UT2004RegFix-1.3.zip to do it manually.

That's odd. Please can you send me your system/UT2004.log file?

If it has anything like Roger noted in his post here https://miasma.rocks/index.php/topic,2028.0.html , you could try that same solution.

Thanks for the info, Piglet. I checked the contents of the files you sent Roger and see that they all end with ".u"
On the other hand, I have UT2004 installed on an old Dell Win 7 computer. It still allows me to connect to MIA servers, but it's very slow. It does allow me to see other servers in the program's Internet tab and allows me to play on them. I backed up all the files from that installation and have them on a flash drive. Could I copy some of the files and replace them with the files from the new installation on the PC that doesn't allow me to see the servers?
I remember that in the past, when the official UT2004 server went down, a small file was created and added to the program. This old PC probably has it, but I don't know what that file is.

Aha! You need the game to be able to write stuff. You'll need to change it to be read/write. If you still have problems keep posting back here or ping me on Discord and we'll keep helping you.

Once it can write to system/ut2004 it will give the ability to get me more information to be able to help you.

I just noticed "Error moving file?"  Is your ut2004 directory write protected? It sounds like it's trying to write into ut2004/cache and failing

It's true that the "read-only" tab was activated.

I don't have the UT2004.log file in my system directory.

The problem is that I can't see any servers in the Internet tab. That page is empty. I tried adding the IP 80.4.151.145:7777, and it seems to open the current game on the MIA server, but it starts loading the game percentage and exceeds 100%. It continues loading, and the game never starts.

You should put the master server in you UT2004.ini
You can check at once if your directory is protected.

For the future some useful links:

If someone got ideas to what to ad or delete please (dm me on Discord)
