To be honest it is massively psychological. If parents introduce something as a child, it becomes a lifelong habit. Now the chicken or egg problem.
So, I think people need to try it out and then decide on an individual basis what they prefer. I think a best of both world approach can be a middle ground but then since when was the nether regions getting so much attention?
Also, I asked a USA friend why not and he said splash back lol. Now that can make many people bail out. So, I think the industry needs to take into account such concerns to just enhance the experience a bit more for people who have such concerns
Old French had a much different style of using which involved hands than today's modern systems but well people should experiment to find their best comfort
