Recommendos for best mouse?
« on: September 03, 2015, 13:24 »
Had a Razer mouse for 4 years but it's dying; click, faulty drag.  Stepped down to spare HP.

I want wires, don't like wireless.  Also I'm left handed.    >:D

Corsair http://uk.pcmag.com/corsair-vengeance-m65/1036/review/corsair-vengeance-m65

Logitech http://www.trustedreviews.com/logitech-g402-hyperion-fury-gaming-mouse-review

Razer http://www.razerzone.com/gb-en/gaming-mice/razer-deathadder-black

Cheapo but looks cool http://www.tecknet.co.uk/m268.html

Any recommendations?

I've been using the Razer Mamba for a couple years now on my desktop and it's pretty comfy, I will admit. So was the Logitech G700 I had before then.

I'd still be using the G700 today if the padding on the bottom didn't get caught on the edge of my mousepad and fold over itself. Can't get it to stick back and the damn thing is lopsided now  :D

There's also this you can follow, though I would take it with a grain of salt, as they say.

I vote for Corsair as I own one myself.
That Corsair mouse is designed for right hand users though so you should try before buying.

I haven't bought a mouse for a while and it's surprising you lose touch with what's good or no. Thanks for the updates and support :)

Logitech seems to be well ahead.

As a lefty I try and look for the mouse with consistent slanting on both side, so probably the G302.  But maybe the LED backlit, dunno.  I have a week or so until some dosh arrives.

Roccat also makes some ambidextrous mice.

Thanks for that tip.  Lot of good looking mice with many buttons, but being left-handed is restrictive.  I will start with this one:   http://www.roccat.org/en-GB/Products/Gaming-Mice/Lua/  and see how it goes.  It is small, so dunno.  But spare mice are always useful.

Your first two models are not for lefties.
Anyway, I got a very cheap, but also good mouse: http://www.trust.com/en/product/17530-gxt-32-gaming-mouse
You can change the button mapping in driver, create macros and switch between 2 button mappings with the mode button. There are 3 dpi levels, switchable with the other button (so you don't need any button combinations for that).

"Not for lefties," I know but I look and drool at the buttons, all in the wrong place :(

Today I got a Roccat Lua and what a relief from the temp HP mouse - sore hand from that(and I haven't been looking at porn).  The Lua is smooth, very light click.  Speed adjustable.  The roller is a bit clicky but probably adjustable too, although it's all ok for me.  Thanks for help and suggestions, appreciated!

Is it the boot drive you replaced? If you can access the original OS installation (assuming it's Windows) you can open regedit.exe and go to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\Unreal Technology\Installed Apps\UT2004, you should find it there

And if you can't boot into the OS on your old drive, but can access the contents, there's a way to browse your old registry.

Your stats username and other game configuration are stored in User.ini and UT2004.ini, these are in your UT2004's System folder.

Didn't think of that. Think I'm gonna throw that in a .txt on my "tools" flash drive.

I like (and still play with) the old logitech MX500/MX510/MX518 style mouse. Logitech don't make them any longer so I play with one cobbled together with parts from old ones.

I have a Logitech G402 in front of me I bought when I thought I couldn't repair my MX518. The buttons are in fairly reasonable places - but I've not yet used it. Maybe I'll give it a go in the next few days and let you know how it goes.

I've also got a Corsair M95 - loads of buttons but I didn't get on with it at all. Not a FPS mouse. Doesn't work properly in USB3 slot. Buttons very difficult to press without moving your hand.  I tried it in UT2004 for several days hoping it would grow on me and I could map more of the buttons to weapons...but in the end I gave up and went back to my trusty MX518.

[edit] ahhh - didn't spot that you're left handed. That narrows things down a lot Those in my post will definitely not be suitable. The buttons will be in the wrong places unless you have a right hand grafted on to your left arm!
