Getting a CD key for UT2004 purchased from GOG

Hi, I was asked to make a post on how to get a legitimate (no warez) CD key for UT2004 purchased from gog.com.
So all you have to do is click the "here" link at https://support.gog.com/hc/en-us/articles/360005054374-Unreal-Tournament-2004-Editor-s-Choice-Edition-Your-CD-key-appears-to-be-invalid?product=gog
and answer the chatbot's questions. You'll then receive two .reg files (for 32 and 64 bit OS) in your inbox. These will overwrite the CD key in your registry.

hey when the epic master server goes down, how does a server validate cd keys? I mean its like when gamespy went down, and UT3 used gamespy for cd key validation to play on servers..

I've read somewhere that cd key validation will be gone, but I cannot find the source for it anymore.

If that is indeed so, then UT2004 can be considered "abandonware", and treated as such.

Unfortunately that's not the case. Epic still retain all the rights.

Still, if you can buy it on gog, then you can legally get a unique key that will allow you to play on community servers.
