It is, but Rainmeter is by far the best Windows-compatible program I've found to date :)

Just tried Windows 8 consumer preview on my virtual machine.

New features like the option to open the cmd from the directory you are in with the explorer.
But that's all about the improvements...
The start menu is one of this very modern kind. Looks like all try to copy apple and their iphone.
Well, that's ok in this case, but what really sucks is the task manager: it only tells you which apps are running. Also you can only shutdown the computer with [ctrl]+[alt]+[del].
Solitaire is sorted under xbox live and only runs in fullscreen mode xD

And at last the driver support: I could even not access my network because of a missing driver.

PS: the desktop mode looks like Windows 7

My biggest problem with Windows 8 is the new Metro GUI. It's flat and boxy, while the Aero shell is glossy and rounded. It just doesn't blend and it looks rather... ugly.

It's performance doesn't bother me as much, I know it'll get hacked and modded to perform like in the days of old eventually :P

IMO just stick with your old OS until there is no other way than upgrading.

Was suggested by N3Cr0 that I share this here, it's just a spare-time production :D
Only problems are with the Windows shells itself, I'm just too lazy to run Resource Hacker atm :\

I see you're enjoying your meme faces :P
I'll give X2 a try, see how it works, an dI might make this available for download at a later date, when I tweak it a bit.

My face when I clicked [more]:

 :win:

Now, with X2, is it worth paying for or am I better off just sticking with the free version?

hehe

I'd stick with lite version and get pro if I really need the extra features.
For me, lite does everything I need - tabs, all folders open in same window, mass renaming, cmd from addressbar, filters, splitting, shredding and more :)

Yep, great one, but let me suggest two more options:
  • Qtabbar (if you only need tabs) - requires .net framework 3.5 under WinXp - works out of the box under Windows 7
  • Explorer ++ (which I am using under Windows XP) almost the same features like Explorer 2

x2 with like 17 tabs open - takes ~10 MB RAM. I've yet to find another filemanager this lightweight and powerful.
