That's DesktopInfo. In theory you can even monitor gameservers with it :)

There's another app for Windows that you might like too - BGInfo. It's part of the SysInternals suite (useful stuff).
BGInfo doesn't have as many features though.

My new Ubuntu Studio (coming with XFCE Desktop)

Some changes in layout and design, but the desktop environment is default.

... not the final version yet - needs more minor fixes ...

I used Chrome before, but sometimes it asked to save my passwords, sometimes not - I looked at Help, but that didn't help.  Sometimes Chrome remembered last page visisted or not, but Opera is consistent.  Although Opera has occasional problems with downloads: http://udn.epicgames.com/Three/ParticleSpriteSubUVEmitterTutorial.html try dl, bottom of the page.  But usually Opera is np with dl.   Opera Resume / Stop dl is also a good option that Chrome does not have - last i looked ^^

Worked fine for me. If you couldn't dl it, did you try right-clicking > Save Linked Content As...?

Yeap, sometimes Opera thinks you want to open a file in their browser instead of download. Could even be a problem on Epic's side.
Right click -> Save... works always.
