I haven't posted anything here on the forum for a long time. Two months ago, I defended my BA in Sociology. Sociology is the study of society, its processes and the explanation of these processes. It is a very interesting field of science - on the basis of the available literature, a researcher is able to analyze a given phenomenon, on the other hand, today, in the XXI century, we are dealing with another "dimension" of research, which is the Internet, which in a certain way degree is still unexplored. I have been playing on the Miasma VCTF server for many years, under the influence of my studies I started to notice certain patterns of behavior depending on the country of origin.
For example: I noticed that Italians (IT) statistically more often defend the flag, players from the USA (US) almost always attack, Brazilians (BR) are very inventive and try to find new "ways" to play the arena. I suspect that the reason for this state of affairs is a lot of factors such as lifestyle (society of a given country or individual), work performed (mental/physical, it looks different in each country), cultural conditions (upbringing, behavior patterns considered appropriate in a given society) ) or age (our reflexes deteriorate with age, we become slower, more lazy).
I am writing about all of this to ask you for your opinion - do you also have such observations? I believe that this would be a very interesting research topic, which could revolutionize the perception of the video game market on the one hand and the societies of the countries concerned on the other.

Generalisations are by definition imprecise. People get very cross about them when they see it as racial sterotyping or some such.
However, as you say you do get some gut-feel as you play:
(FI) - remarkably good aims. Not very chatty
(BE) - ridiculous aim. Friendly chat
(RU) - more cheats than anywhere else, but other than that no generalisations to observe
(FR) - attack attack attack
(PL) - Crying and complaining all the time
Interesting, I've never thought about it on a country level, but I've always noticed that the way a person plays says a lot about a person's personality and psyche.
People who attack all the time and don't care about the team tend to be more selfish (only children maybe? xD)
People who winjoin (or needs deemer, 199hp and 150 shield) all the time are likely to adopt the same behavior in life, trying to get some small perks. In addition to being people with low self-esteem, needing advantages to win and reaffirm themselves as someone skilled (Vlad_Dracula, Loon, Dead_Dredd, Plassy, Romulus and many others)
People who rq always tend to be less resilient with problems in life
People who go camping all the time..well those are just assholes that spoil the game (hi loon)
I've noticed some of these behavior patterns after many years of playing and chatting with dozens of players on what's app
I had never thought about it from a country perspective, but yes, the culture of each country determines a large part of the person's personality and, consequently, their playstyle
Here in Brazil we have a very strong culture of artistic football (dribbling to create solutions etc). I even say "oléé" when I dribble or deceive someone in the game. Maybe unconsciously I transferred this to my playstyle

I don't know how you guys come up with this, there is some truth to it, but not enough data to come up to any sensible conclusions. The examples that you gave:
1) Italians defend - that's mostly Rounin, hahahahate snipes, Unclegrandma just jumps around aimlessly
2) USA attacks - Dead_Dredd I'd agree, but Kyhado - plays midfield (leaning towards defence), AN - plays midfield, SaintHappening is mostly on defence, FlipFlopKerry mixes it up. If there's one country with an attacking mentality I would say it's Poland - our 4 best players - Plakatowy, Belial, ESCOBAR, myself - we are pretty much all on attack 90%+ of the time. And btw Kuha - I'm the one one who complains a lot, but the vast majority of time it's aimed at my own team for not doing crap. Having said that we are known for complaining a lot xD Blame the weather xD

This is the way I see it:
Snipers/campers = people who hate taking risks and want to feel good about themselves despite not adding anything to the table most of the time, probably gives them the illusion that they are helping the team and in reality they are just extremely annoying and nothing else. In investing = people who keep their money in their socks or buy bonds ;D
People who defend = really responsible players and pretty much the core strength of the team. You could have the best 3 attackers in the game, without a proper defence they will most likely lose. Defenders - tacticians, often not too flashy, but getting the job done. Great defence = great foundations of the team. In investing = people who buy index funds ;D
People who attack = people who like taking risks, get bored fast, like to have fun even despite losing their dignity, are not a fan of teamwork and like to work alone (and Sup, that's not selfish - you can't call people who cap multiple times per map selfish, they are the reason the scoreboard is even moving). In investing = people who buy crypto or play stocks with high leverage ;D
If we go further I've noticed (but again, it's a small sample) that girls most often like to defend than attack. Draugr, Vasabi, HLK 7 I believe are pretty much on defence all the time (and use flak as their main weapon), Risel is kinda playing midfield leaning towards defence unless there's a manta on a map in which she's on attack a lot, tirofijo plays midfield a bit too and can attack once or twice per map depending on the circumstances

I think Piglets view of finish players from freon players Nyrde/Jaska they dont talk that much.
How much we say that nationality matters? Im half turk and tatar, 0% Finish i grew in turkish culture in Finland do i play more like Soma or more like other finish players? Would my teen years where i started to live more like Finish ppl minus alcohol that now im in same basket as Nyrde/Jaska? But Jaska says hes imigrant so hes not Finish either so he just happens to have good aim and not talking much like Nyrde. Then what about Assmonkey hes Finish who lives abroad but he has awful aim is it cos he does not live in Finland?
Then we can even look at the Belgium guys they have Netherlands and France side. Does one side produce better players? Quadro is from the Dutch side while Lexa French. Dont know where Dwnkins is from but still they all have great aim and great game sense. We can say Shockcat who is from Netherlands has good aim so does he share same points as Quadro? Hell is from France yet hes not any where good as Lexa so does the Belgium nationality matter more?
Does age matter? Does time of play? Gaming history? Personality? Relationships? Hardware? Location compared to server location so ping?
But in the end what matter is the person behind the screen. I got Quadro to play Apex legends with me and he learns the game mechanics fast and easily. The game has movement mechanics like in UT where u can abuse it to move faster needing more skill and time to learn. I know the basic how to do them yet i cant. Quadro needed less than week and he heard the movement looked up and learned them. Only thing i have up against him is gameknowledge but in time he will have it too. Does the Belgium nationality matter? Lexa is god in Apex so is Shock but they have gameplay hours in 1-2k+. Im only at 340, Quadro has less than me but its only matter of time.

This is an observation based around experience of banning botters and playing with/against people.
It would be more accurate to say "(RU) - more players caught cheating than anywhere else".
The second part was an observation that players who were not cheating with IPs flagged as "(RU)" did not exhibit any noteworthy general features. There's just a normal range of experience playing with/against them.

I'm not sure about the countries, I conducted my statistics on the signs of the zodiac, but I know that the Gemini guys are the smartest, cool, sexy and talented attacking guys. They are able to win, even if they play alone in whole team.

Btw, the fire zodiacs (Aries, Leo, Sagittarius) are also very hot and smart guys who always attack, but at the same time are able to change tactics in the middle of the game. If they are in the opposition team, rest assured, you have started having problems.

I managed to fire 7 shock hits in a row against Freon players last night. I suppose eventually blind luck has to result in things hitting!
Freon is quite often a game based on statistics - if you constantly take the right decision after right decision then eventually you will hit those targets / thaw those teammates / win that map
But if the alternative is to hop around and spam rockets randomly then there is no way you can ever produce good results over long run

I'm one of those players that likes to jump around and spam rockets. Not because I like to specifically spam rockets but because I have little to no aim with hitscan weapons and, after 25 years or so of trying to improve my aim, have a play style built around thawing and getting the odd kill where I can. It's fun!
You see, not everybody playing yearns to hone their craft, to get X/Y/Z efficiency with certain weapons, to learn the flow of maps, to test themselves against the best players, to instinctively work their way down a decision tree in the middle of a 4-player melee scrap. A lot of people are here for, well, fun. Fun and the familiarity of playing a game that's been around for longer than some players here have been alive. We enjoy the familiar faces, the jokes, the banter and sometimes we do well, sometimes we don't.
A lot of people aren't looking for good results; we strive for that in many things we do in life but not necessarily here. There will always be more skilled players and that's great - they can crack on with their games and it's often a joy to watch.
In the meantime, there's the rest of us. The ones that are here for the people, the games, the nostalgia and to just play and have a good time. And if that involves rockets and goop, then that just adds to the variety of players we have.
Going back to the OP, I haven't really noticed any differences between players from different areas of the world except the Finnish And US players tend to be a little quieter on Freon. The Dutch players can be a tad 'boisterous' too :)

Yet, you go for the thaw 1st and everything else comes after - in freon that is _basically the only_ correct decision that one has to make and some fail to make. By thawing one dictates / forces the gameplay / flow and through that one can also hit more (if that is the goal). Like I wrote - this is a game of statistics where making correct decisions (=THAW) constantly will guarantee good results regardless of results in a smaller timeframe nor what you were trying to do in the first place ("having fun")
What you wrote in the other part of your answer sounds to me that you should play only FFA. Neither freon nor any form of CTF is suitable for "doing my own thing" and calling it "I only play to have fun". These are teamplay based gamemodes - the biggest fun comes from teamplay, adapting to other teammates respective gamestyles and doing your best together as a team NOT from individual "I like to have fun by wanking in the server by playing FFA in a teambased gamemode simply because this is my definition of fun". Exactly like a virtual representation of a collaboration from school / any team sports / work where wankers would be negatively looked upon
Edit: the point is that one can easily hop around and spam rockets in Freon if thawing is put 1st

But here's the thing. It's a public server. That means you're going to get all abilities, all play styles. Yes, if someone is just shooting rockets at a wall then they'll be warned and kicked. I'm perfectly comfortable with how I play and I imagine most other players are, too.
I can imagine it's frustrating that it's not as competitive and skilled as you'd like but as soon as we start gatekeeping based on one person's perception of fun and to what level the game should be played then a small, friendly (on the whole) community becomes even smaller and exclusive.

Hi Plaka! congratulations! im a sociologist too, and i finished my master degree this year, i can tell u that as sociologysts, we tend to generalisate a lot, our field need to do that in some way to get data, but here we have a small community, will be interesting to make a field research.... lol
Btw there are many researchs about videogames in sociology, use science hub to look them, most in english, and remember that in final line, we deal with the material conditions over the subjetives one, i will be more prone to say that in videogames the personal beahvior has few to do with country, i will think of it more related to the hardware and economic reality behind it than social generalisations, im talking about alllll videogames not only UT, but for example i have many concerns about ping and quality of the player, even if we have some great players with high ping as Sup, or great aim like Loon (great aim but no usefull for team)... anyway this is gigantic topic and i have already write too much, see you in the warfield comrade sociologyst! :D

Coming back to the topic, I have such a small reflection - in fact, Soma and Killer made me aware of it - we often "argue" in the chat about why I did not use a raptor/manta to save our flag. I am writing this not because of me it hurts, but I think that the very perception of vehicles or even the strategies themselves is conditioned by ... something.
In Poland, we often use the saying "The best defense is a good offensive" - as we read in the sources, George Washington, Machiavelli and Sun Tzu wrote about it. When the opponent steals our flag, I think that then the enemy base is empty, because the opposing team is trying to cover the person running with our flag. Of course, if you read this, you probably won't agree - it's natural. The fact that your view of it is different indicates certain conditions (differences) between us, which may result from the origin of each of us.
This is all I would like to add from myself; the society in the world is very diverse (and therefore beautiful!), the players in games are like painters who seem to create a mosaic - the team whose final image is more coherent wins. :)

To tell the truth its sad to even see some admins join in these childish acts. That recent Gil post on Discord shows how u ppl act. When u get the chance to be the bully u will take it and live it making fun the one invidual whos not part of your group. Yet when u anger the mighty Lion who will spawn camp and makes sure u wont ever win match against him in VCTF u all start crying about balancer blaming your team when in truth you just suck at the game. Kuha is right about the sabbing and bullying players recently, it's happening pretty often to the point where there's no fun in playing. Snoop actually does it a lot particularly against me (you would have to spec me to believe it), the dude is one of the most vicious players I've ever seen - his team could literally lose 0-5 and all he cares about camping and sniping. He's like that bot that locks his target on you and he won't stop until either he kills you or dies himself. You can't imagine the number of times we were in opposite teams, some guy in my team took the flag and Snoop was still going after me where I was literally doing nothing mid map instead of chasing the enemy flag carrier who eventually went on to score.
Yesterday I was playing on lakovost, the game started at 6vs6 but technically it was 1v2 (which I'm used to on this map, no biggie, can't remember the last time the teams were balanced), suddenly everyone started joining the opposite team to the point it was like 1vs6 or something and what did Snoop do at this point? Join the opposite team.
I don't get the sabbing and bullying at all no matter what you feel about specific players, I mean what are you to teach someone who plays fair a lesson just because he curses or is unlikeable?
Btw "Calling me the next rounin or napoli was it." come on man, really ;D? I've been called way worse than that. Just have thicker skin, at the end of the day it's an online game even if you curse or get pissed you log off and go on about your day. We could still have a beer no problem like in December ;D

on a sidenote, as long as someone with admin perks can get away with abusing the equalizer with the sole intention of screwing up teams and then joining back on the winning side (khm referring to moi here) it's unreasonable to ask for the punishment of anyone.

Hahaha and literally the same crap again on Lakovost just minutes ago - I was alone in my team AGAIN playing at 300% to keep it fairly even and everyone started joining the opposite team - Paradox, Paco and Belial to name a few (should've made a print screen). I mean you have to be seriously dense at this point to not know that this to eff up the game and make me lose within 3 minutes. From now on I'm posting screenshots or videos of such games, because this is seriously pathetic when it's 1 vs 8 (I'm not even exaggerating) and there are no consequences for full blown winjoiners who are ruining the games and this is happening way too often recently.
Then when the tables turn on their a***s and they're alone in their teams these little pu**ies instantly go spec. What a complete and utter joke.
Or hey let's just show the middle finger to balancer and I'll just keep joining stronger teams from now on without any consequences? What a great idea, huh?
Sort this out guys, because there's no point in anyone playing in such circumstances. I thought the idea was to keep the game fair and balanced not have one guy do 300% work and then have everyone join the opposite team for an easy win.

Lakovost is just the most prominent example, this happens on every map. On lakovost literally half of the games I play people are ganging up on me to the point where it's like 1 vs 6/8 and I can't even respawn properly. Like is there some magic achievement that I'm unaware of that is unlocked where you beat me on lakovost to the point where nobody gives a flying F about balance anymore.
But I see it constantly on tons of maps. Imagine doing 1 vs 8 on Magis all the time. Imagine if everyone was effing the balancer to beat Thunder on Edge or Sup on magnet just for the sake of it.
Freaking blows my mind why people just can't play fair especially since there is nothing to gain as we're not playing for anything other than to have fun.
Hello again, I just came back from work and I can see that again this topic has become the subject of a discussion not strictly related to the topic. In order not to make the same mistakes, I will not comment or defend myself against any accusations against me. As I mentioned before, some of the people writing here prove that they take this game (server) very seriously - is this already approaching the form of addiction? I started this topic to know your opinion on this matter (sociology), meanwhile I only see unnecessary arguments. On the other hand ... what did I expect? Mostly people here after returning from work want to have fun with a bottle of beer. If someone from the administration is reading this, please close this topic - let's stop this wave of hate.

exactly whatever you do they will blame you, if someone try to make games fair they will accuse him of ruining games and if he winjoins they start calling him winjoiner, i just remembered justice was moving players from red to blue and from blue to red to make the games fair coz we can not fix balancer 100% would they blame justice too if he did the same thing now ?? they feel happy after winning in 3 minutes as u said it was 9 vs 1 but if u tried to make it 4 vs 5 they would blame you, there is a player iam not gonna say who is it i just joined game i was looking at teams to see where i should play so he called me winjoiner and start crying anyway i switched to his team i have noticed next days he winjoined like 3 times so what do you expect ??

How long we had to read Sup posting stupid shit on forum/ingame/discord about Cowboy when he had already goten muted in every platform. Admins just let Sup be toxic for no gain other than to grow the toxicity.

There's nothing toxic there, we hardly ever talk about ut. Kuha stayed there for 1 week and barely interacted (ty god) because he doesn't know how to talk about anything but ut.
